Father and son Steve and Russell Bennett purchased the freehold of The Stanley Arms in September 2002 from Roy and Pat Bond, who in 1997 had transformed the Stanley into a Real Ale paradise. Steve then bought out Russell in 2004, who had started his own property re-furbishment business which went from strength to strength. Steve gradually, with the help of his wife Barbara, daughter Sam and son Steven increased the handpump selection to seven. This enables them to offer an even larger selection of quality ales chosen from small breweries around the country. The pub is an eight times winner of the Brighton & Southdowns Camra “Pub of the Year.”
The Stanley Ale House is another of Steve's father and son ventures. Steve and Steven, have been following the emerging Micropub trend for the past few years, with the dream of opening one of their own.
The duo viewed numerous properties before deciding on the location in Lancing. With the support of the council, and many local residents, who took to social media to support the proposed business idea, the alcohol license was granted for The Ale House.
The premises, previously a Laundrette, had been removed of all fittings, providing an entirely blank canvas to work with. The family welcomed suggestions and ideas from all regulars at The Stanley Arms. Steve, Steven and local tradespeople from the Stanley community worked tirelessly and used these suggestions to create a welcoming environment with a traditional pub theme.
The Stanley Ale House offers a new drinking experience in Lancing; a haven of Real Ale, good company and conversation.
